It’s hard to believe that back-to-school time is here! It seems like schools are opening their doors earlier and earlier, so now is the time to start setting healthy habits to get into the routine for the school year. We’re rounding up the top tips from HealthyChildren.org:

Back to School Tips

1. Set Good Sleep Patterns
During the summer, kids (and parents!) usually love to sleep in. To get back in to the routine of waking up earlier for school without being utterly exhausted, begin by setting your alarm 15 minutes early and increase that timing until you get to your ideal wake up time.

2. Take a Look at Your Eating Habits
Summer is for being carefree and go with the flow, but come fall, routines help keep you organized. Planning your family’s meals will help to keep you on track and will help with time management as well. Sending your kids off with a nutritious breakfast before their school day is another healthy habit to enforce. Consider a nice serving of complex carbohydrates, protein, and some fat. An example of this could be scrambled eggs, sliced avocado, and a baked sweet potato. Yum!

3. Keep Your Stress Under Control
As exciting as a new school year is, that same celebratory event can also cause both you and your kids a great deal of stress. Try to pay attention to your kids’ stress triggers and take steps to address them. Include your kids in relaxation exercises such as yoga, and help practice self care such as washing hands often. If your child comes down with an illness that requires urgent care services, After Hours Pediatrics Urgent Care is here to help.
